Reviews of The Market Bar
Let's all go to the market!
Review from worldsbestbars.com
For yet another example of Dublin's innovative new use of old space and design – head to The Market Bar in the old Gothic style red-brick Arcade on George Street. A veritable warehouse of a space with vast ceilings and doors, you enter past a cosy beer garden where regulars are sipping pints of beer under tall heaters. Inside it's split into two levels, with a large front area and bar looked down on by a second smaller raised level, behind it. Plants are dotted all over and clean-lined garden tables and chairs are set about a large central seating area in the middle of the whole space. With its high ceilings and imposing look there's something of a cathedral about it, which is accentuated when the music is turned off and the banter of the after-work regulars becomes the soundtrack. Wait staff serve food in a seated restaurant area at the back, and tapas for the extra-peckish later on. Let's all go to Market!
One of the finest buildings in Dublin
Review from dublinks.com
The Market Bar is yet another Superpub for Dublin city centre but this time with a great location - in the old sausage factory in the George's Street Arcade. The sprawling red-brick Gothic structure that is the Arcade is one of the finest buildings in Dublin, so to secure a large Dublin pub premises here is something of a coup for the owners. The entrance is off Cope Street, across the road from Hogans. You pass through a courtyard with tables and chairs and enter the warehouse-like Dublin bar. The Market Bar has got plenty of seats around sturdy tables that get filled very quickly on any night after Tuesday. The redbrick and iron girder interior has been cleaned and restored - most noticeably in the middle arch, that has been almost entirely rebuilt. The room is large and impressive, with a small sitting area with sofas upstairs. The ceiling is high, so smoke isn't a problem, but then again, I suppose that won't be an issue in a few months anyway. The service in The Market Bar is friendly and it's a pleasant place to be.
It's a hit with young Dubliners
Review from irelandguide.com
This large bar is is located in the Victorian redbrick block best known for the George's Street Market Arcade that runs through its centre. It's an attractive space with lofty ceilings (high enough to allow the addition of a mezzanine floor) and simple, stylish furnishings - a little too simple perhaps, as the wooden floor and hard surfaces bounce noise around and there's precious little to absorb it. It's a hit with young Dubliners however and the food, which is cooked in an open kitchen, is part of the attraction. The menu is loosely Spanish, offering nibbles like olives, smoked almonds and anchovies, and more substantial dishes which can be ordered as small or large portions (about €6-€9 each) and include fairly faithful renditions of Spanish classics like tortilla and patatas bravas. Not perfectly authentic tapas, perhaps, but the right kind of food for this fashionable space, and a move in the right direction.
